Jack the Tricycle Maniac

Many family members and friends have commented that Jack seems to have no fear. He believes large dogs are friends to be made and great heights are meant to be climbed. Jack received a "Cars" tricycle for Christmas and the too-big-for-him trike is the highlight of his 22 month life. Our house is at the top of a steep hill. So steep that you have to put on your parking break if you're on the incline of the hill. So steep that I wait for Clint to get home so he can bring the trashcan back up to the house in his truck.

So steep that riding a tricycle down is potentially very harmful. Like blood, swelling, panicking mother, etc.

But, as I said, Jack has no fear. He rides that tricycle down the gravel driveway like he was born to go 30 mph with Lightning McQueen shouting "Get out of my way!" And it scares me to death. Clint and I run beside him so we can catch him if he falls, or we can stop the tricycle if it looks too out of control.

Last Sunday we were getting everything in the car for church and I noticed the back door open. I flew outside screaming for Jack and there he was, perched on the top of the hill, his little behind up in the air, positioned for optimal speed. He was off before I could think about how to stop him. I sprinted after him, screaming like a mad woman the entire time. He, of course, was laughing and flying down the hill with one hand on the handlebars. He didn't get hurt; must have been a miracle.

Jack's tricycle is now chained to the front porch. He sits on it every afternoon and gazes out across the yard, dreaming of his next ride.

This video is one that we took Christmas morning of Jack receiving his tricycle.

This video is one of his recent rides. Enjoy!
